TEPPOUZU COLD PULIFICATION 2017

62nd Cold Water Purification was held at Teppouzu Inari Shrine downtown Tokyo on the second Sunday of January 8, 2017. I joined this naked festival for the first time of this year as the leader of 8th All Japan Wada Group of 18 participants including three ladies. I am 69 years and 10 months old. This time was my 10th ablution.

The total number of ascetics was 98 including 8 ladies and 2 young boys. The youngest was a 9-year-old boy the forth grader of primary school. The oldest was Mr. Wakui 81 years old.

The bathing ascetics in the ice-cold water, all prayed world peace, prosperity and good health, each putting own hands together and shaking. This day was cloudy and very cold so that I suffered from severest penance ever before.

Teppouzu naked fundoshi festival is very famous so that mass media including Reuters the news agency of the world formed a line of cameras in front of us.
